Every now and then I see a lot of criticism being thrown on the kingpin of the computer world, Microsoft and its founder Bill Gates.
How could a company, which has made our lives cushy and comfy like heaven, end up in getting nothing but severe censure?
How can everyone blindly ignore its undisputed contribution in the field of software and operating systems?
Why don’t they stop using its products if they don’t like it?
Friends, we all know that 90% of the world’s PCs have Microsoft windows installed on them yet more than 85% criticize it.
In my first contribution to this blog, I would like to lift the veil and try to remove the blot on Microsoft’s image.

They say that there are many bugs in windows…
I agree friends that there are many bugs in windows. But think about it pragmatically for a second, windows is nothing but a stream of 25000 lines of code. Try writing a computer program of just 1000 lines then we will talk about bugs.

They say that Google is cool but Microsoft is Destructive…..
Wait wait wait!!! ‘Destructive’??? Well there is a dilemma in the word itself.
Yes!! Microsoft is destructive because it gives a cut-throat competition to all the biggies. Microsoft does enter late but when it enters, it sabotages and jeopardizes your complete effort in making a particular product. When Microsoft entered operating system business, it annihilated Macintosh. When it entered browser business, it was a turn of Netscape Navigator. And now it has entered search business :-) . Yeah yeah, I can see lots of boos coming my way. But who knows. An insider of Silicon Valley once said, “Where there is Microsoft, there will be blood”.

They say that Microsoft does not give source code with its products…..
My Vampiric mind wakes up every time I hear this from someone. Are we f**king so cheap that we want anything and everything for free? Can’t we spend few bucks buying one original software, an operating system for god sake? Do they ever say that they are some kind of non-profit oraganization? Its their business model that they want to make things easy for all of us with their products. How would one earn in the software world, if he starts giving away the code. Ok ok, yeah I know there is Linux. But how many of us are interested in manually mounting everything. Quality comes at some price friends.

They say that Microsoft wants to establish monopoly…..
Well who doesn’t? Don’t you think Google is moving on the same track?
Search, Online advertisement, Browser and now operating system and targeting the whole cloud computing. Aren’t we overly naïve about Google? My point here is not to criticize Google but all I am saying is that Microsoft does not want to establish monopoly friends. They are keeping everyone on his/her toes if you look at it from a different angle. They are not letting any uncompetitive players stay in the business.

I am neither a die-hard fan of Microsoft nor its critic. But I think we should be rewarding rather than reviling.

Its a fad mate. Everybody wants to jump onto the bashing bandwagon a get a piece of the pie. The original hate for MS has its roots in the inclusion of Internet Explorer as the default and free browser in Windows which led to the demise of Netscape Navigator. They are known to have allegedly paid governments and OEM’s cash to use Windows instead of the alternatives. There was a time when they got complacent which led to products liiek Firefox being adopted openly by the consumers.

If I’m paying a high price for something, then I want it to work perfectly. It’s not as if MS is giving the OS for free. I’m paying for the service and expect the OS to be secure and free from the constant freezes and BSODs we are so used to with Windows. If you can’t code properly and expect people to accept the sub-standard product you give them, you are expecting too much. With Windows 7, MS is moving into the opposite direction with a rock-solid product that aims to address all the issues.

“Where there is Microsoft, there will be blood” – just love this particular line from the article. Everyone had criticized and made fun of the Xbox when it was launched. Today, it stands tall with the market leaders. The Zune was ridiculed but with the upcoming Zune HD, I’m pretty certain MS has a winner. Windows 7, as I’ve said previously, is smooth as silk. I’m running the RTM on my PC’s and there’s no problem whatsoever. Windows Mobile 6.5 shall make WinMo more finger friendly. Bing has already proven its worth. So, I agree with your point that MS arrives late but after a while it starts kicking serious butt.

As far as the talk about monopoly, well MS clearly is a monopoly. This is probably the only reason they get sued by the anti-trust agencies on so many occasions whereas others like Apple are never bothered. But they are a monopoly because they are worth it. People may go on whining on day that they indulged in anti-competitive practices to attain the current position but that still isn’t enough to justify the overwhelming number of PC’s which have MS products installed on them.

I would not call myself a MS fanboy but I do like their products. There was a time in the last decade when MS had completely shut out the consumer, didn’t listen to them and made buggy software. But the current MS has shown a complete reversal from that trend. They are listening to the consumers, creating good quality products and giving excellent software like Windows Live Writer and Windows 7 Beta for free to the community. This is bound to restore the company’s image, reduce the negativity surrounding it and help maintain its position as the leader.

    Hey,

Look m not a fan or critic of microsoft…

but i have few points that we dont say that microsoft is bad, we just say that it is dying. The companies like google n apple are finally taking a toll.

as u said that **we all know that 90% of the world’s PCs have Microsoft windows installed on them** well but the point here is Microsoft’s extremely strong hold over consumers is slowly but surely weakening.

Most of the consumers are doing anything.. literally anything – reading, wiritng or editing docs to play games.

Its not about criticizing, the thing is Microsoft is getting trouble getting the right things.

The ZUNE never really reached anywhere even close to ipod. n microsoft windows Mobile while popular, never reached the top like Nokias Symbian or the now in rage – OS X for the iPhone.

At this point in time, the browsers don’t require you to pay anything to install, in case you hadn’t noticed. Newer products such as the Xbox have only recently turned profitable after years of loosing millions.

Its just that Microsoft needs a new sense of direction, or needs to learn that its better to be a master of one than Jack of all.

I think its too early to say that its dying. No doubt the world is going to move solely on cloud computing very soon. But who says that during that time microsoft will do nothing but sit and watch.

We all have witnessed its foray in the world of internet through bing and talking about docs, as per the recent announcement MS office 2010 will be online.

Steve Ballmer, as far as I have read about him is a serious player and is leading the company in the right direction.

What apple does is they make their products exquisite and thats where the problems kick in for MS.

The only company which can make head-on-collision with Google is MS. So I don’t see its demise in the horizon (at least my horizon ;-) )

MS is not evil for its buggy products, but for its policies that smell like world domination. :-)

Well – knit …makes an interesting read…of course, MS doesn’t deserve to be criticized so badly, but then i think it is impossible to please the whole world out there for anybody…

The early 1990s were politically significant in mainly two respects –
1. the emergence of caste politics.
2. the emergence of the BJP.
Theoretically speaking, the emergence of one should have been the end of the other. After all, one seeks to construct a solid block of voters who vote solely in the name of religious hooliganism [...]
