The honeymoon is over !

Last night, India got kicked out of the T-20 World Cup by England. And as I suspected the journos who’ve probably never picked up a bat are aiming for the cricketers’ throats. It’s so amusing to watch their opinions swing like a pendulum – one moment Team India was the best, the next moment Team India was ‘les’ miserables ‘.

This defeat has been a rude shock for especially one man – MS Dhoni. The skipper is being held responsible for making tactical blunders and inviting defeat. But tactics have never been his trademark. This is the same Dhoni who chucked the ball to Joginder Sharma in the final and won the way which can only be described as lucky. But, Dhoni has had a great ride, many would credit his good fortune. Apart from his obvious capabilities, Dhoni has enjoyed a fair amount of good luck. Till recent times, everything was working in his favor. Everything that could go wrong went right for Dhoni. His team won the T-20 World Cup, defeated Australia twice both home and away, won the ODI and Test series in New Zealand, defeated Sri Lanka two times and routed England. Dhoni even managed to take the Chennai team to the IPL final.

His luck seems to have run out. The skipper’s teams have started losing and the skipper has started losing his cool. Dhoni has made his descent from the demigod status he had enjoyed. So, the test for Dhoni’s character has just begun. It’ll be interesting to see if he can maintain his flamboyance and prove once and for all that there’s more to him than just luck.

The news channels kept airing reports of Dhoni apologising to the fans. Nothing out of the ordinary, I say. He probably remembers that day in 2007, when India got kicked out of the World Cup after losing to Bangladesh and angry fans vandalized his house. He’s not taking any chances this time! :P

Everybody who’s read the NCERT books will be able to recall a decorated page in the front named – Gandhi’s Talisman.
