Disclaimer: The following article is by no means suitable for kids below 18 years of age.

It’s no surprise that Internet is riddled with porn. People are absolutely in anything and everything. But we are just starting to see its effect now that the entire generation has grown up online. Pretty, big, fat, pregnant, hairy, young, middle aged… doesn’t matter they are all there. Online porn is ruining marriages. Sex addiction is rampant. The Internet is the crap cocaine of sex addiction. Young kids are becoming connoisseurs of hard-core and deeply kinky acts are now mainstream.

In our Dad’s days, pornography was girly magazine, adult stores, racy novels and the x-rated movie theaters. Quaint by today’s standard and pretty much under the control of the local censor. Dad might not even recognize what pornography has become – “A hard core world without limits, available at the click of a mouse”. Millions of mostly men spending billions of dollars a year on sexually explicit Internet material. It is out of control, literally. The Internet is largely beyond the reach of politicians, parents and law enforcements. We are reaping all the benefits that Internet is capable of giving but we have to yet begin to come to grip the ever-growing pornography. Children are growing up on the Internet, discovering and consuming porn at an alarming rate. It is really going to hurt future generations, as it’s not only difficult but almost impossible to get out of this porn addiction. It is going to be an epidemic or in fact it is already an epidemic.

It’s the world’s biggest Internet business. If we combine the whole income from professional sports and live music companies, it falls short. The porn industry calls in more, an estimated $10 billion a year, much of it from WWW. 11000 movies are produced every year, three times as many as Bollywood and Hollywood movies combined. In essence, the business is huge and is replicating like anything.

The straight question that comes to mind is- Who is going to stop them?

You think the “Great Firewall of China” could stop it – The originators of proxy servers.

So the answer is, forget about it. The Genie is out of the bottle. I don’t think we can put it back. We are bound to live with it. Wonder if the web has gone too far. It may be too late to ask.

Well written…the genie may be out of bottle, but it can be ostracized by diverting our artistic and creative abilities in a way that dramatically rips this genie off its audience. The need of the hour is well channelized awareness and providing people with something better to spend time on , but that must be presented in a really attractive manner.

As long as there are humans, there will be pornography. Some adore it, some loathe it but none can escape it. Sex is an essential part of a mammals life and the fascination with it shall never cease. The only thing that can reduce the negative impact of porn is that we actually impart some real sex education to our kids. The main factor is curiosity which makes kids want to watch porn. We need to stop being hypocrites. It’s high time.

I agree with Rahul . Let’s not be hypocrites here . Sex occupies fascination for humans which is unmatched by anything else . I don’t think that even 5% of the people who watch porn are actually addicted to it . They just treat as an outlet .They’re thinking of sex and when they can’t get it,they watch porn . As of the kids , they start off with it out of curiosity and the thrill of doing something taboo . However ,I’m concerned about the peer pressure that kids are exposed to – it’s uncool to not watch porn .

I agree sex “addiction” is not a big problem in India because of the society. Guys are like that only. We take it as a vent. But in countries like US and UK, it is quite a conundrum. As stated above, it has ruined marriages.People visit psychiatrist once they are into this cyclone. Its good to see the kind of attitude that we Indians have about the problem.

Moreover, the article is more about “online porn” and less about “sex addiction”. So the concern is not about the grown-up asses. It is about the kids (below 18), who are no more bothered about its contrivance. Its right there, available to them…365*24*7. And we all know that it will surely have a bad impact.

See I am not getting hypocrite here. I am not against watching porn. But I think its not meant for children of like 10-12 years. At this age, as Rahul said, they should be imparted “real sex education”, so that they come to know its pros and cons…..

Of course, kids that age shouldn’t be watching porn . But any effective action against pornography is possible only if the entire society changes it’s attitude . Today,we have teachers skipping chapter on reproduction in schools . There’s only a tiny fraction of parents who are openly discussing sex related queries from their children . So,the only source of knowledge for the children is hear say and porn . In that sense ,I feel unless society as a whole isn’t willing to change it’s attitude about sex we’ll be helpless because curiosity will always get better of the cat…

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It’s true for Physics but humans are a different ball game . How do situations get out of hand ?
