Activating Facebook Mobile Texts on unsupported carrier
Just a few weeks back, you must’ve noticed a notification in your Facebook account informing you about the launch of Facebook Mobile Texts. What Mobile Texts basically does is offer you functionality similar to Twitter on Facebook. This existed previously on Facebook as well but the number of service providers & countries was limited.
So, you were all excited when you saw the notification. You hit the link and got ready to add your mobile device to Facebook. And that is where all the excitement died, atleast for most of us here in India. Why, you ask? Well, that’s because only a single carrier, Tata Indicom, is listed as being compatible with the service.
What I will be teaching you today, is how to bypass this restriction and use Facebook with other carriers which are not listed on the Mobile Texts page. Be warned, this involves a considerable amount of patience and knowledge. We will dig deep into the network of a listed carrier and hack into their spectrum in order to enable use of Facebook on our current carrier.
Sounds rubbish? You bet it is! What you actually need to do is to follow these two steps:
- Simply select any carrier listed under your country’s name. In my case, I selected Tata Indicom as shown in the picture above.
- The next step is to enter your cellphone number in the format specified (example :+919999999999, where +91 is the country code for India, and 9999999999 is the cellphone number). DO NOT WORRY IF YOUR PHONE IS ON A DIFFERENT CARRIER (I am on !dea while I selected Tata Indicom as my carrier). Now, press “Activate”.
If everything works, as in my case, you should receive an SMS from Facebook wih a confirmation code. Remember, this is the vital step. If you do not receive the confirmation code, then this trick does not work for you. You’ll have to wait till Facebook officially supports your network.
Type the confirmation code in the text-box on the webpage and press “Confirm”. That’s it! You may now freely update your Facebook profile via SMS and it required only two simple steps. Have fun. Let me know in the comments if this trick worked for you.
