There has been an increase in the number of reality series featuring television stars and celebrities; in their full crappy, talentless glory. There are judges like Anu Malik, who looked for a certain “X-Factor” in the participants. Hello?! Talent does not necessarily mean glamour. The Indian Idols, Sa Re Ga Ma Pas, Voice of Indias and practically hundreds of other shows have not showcased a single talent in recent times that is worth mentioning. If Abhijeet Sawant is the Indian Idol then Mayawati deserves to be the prime minister of the country.

I have never seen these shows promote the real Indian culture. They look for pop stars. There was an attempt by NDTV Imagine with Junoon with some nice quality but as I’ve mentioned before, nothing out of the ordinary.

What I want to highlight with this post is that there is some real good talent in this country. Exceptional singers and dancers that have stuck to their roots and are masters in their own ways. But with no patronage, their numbers are fast dwindling. If you still do not agree with me, I’d request you to kindly play the embedded video below :

If you have even the slightest music sense and can differentiate between music and noise, the video should have left you spellbound. Here is a family of singers, who have dedicated their entire lives to the art and in return get no recognition. The songs, the instruments, the style, the secrets are passed down from one generation to another. These are free souls. They sing because they love to. They do not sing because they want fame. In fact, they hardly ever get noticed and die into oblivion one day. Even after this, their love for the art does not diminish one bit.

This is the real talent of India. The talent which the entire world only gets to see through such videos recorded by foreigners. They see such singers, with exceptional talent, singing and making merry with their battered instruments and realise what their worth is. Sadly, the problem in our country is that Anu Malik wants X-Factor which such Langas and Manganiars do not posses.

The story as posted along with the video states that this family lost all their belongings and their instruments in a flash flood. They cannot build bridges, they cannot bake bread and they sure as hell cannot fly planes. They sit under the scorching sun doing the only thing they know – sing. And one day, they shall stop. They will burn these instruments and erase these songs from their memories. Why, you ask? Because they need to survive. None of us wants to listen to them anymore. We want our daily dose of Coldplay, Seether, Strings, Atif Aslam and what not. Why should they die preserving the heritage when no one else is interested?

It is time that we realise their importance. It is time the Government of India realises their worth. They are not just poor, down-trodden people looking for a few pennies. They are unmatched artists and masters of their craft. They are the real Indian rockstars. They deserve fame and recognition. They deserve respect.

But Madhuri’s razzle-dazzle did not work and the show flopped. People did watch it but more for the laughs. No one took it seriously as the concept, dialouges, dresses & participants were over-the-top and simply too corny.

Fast forward to 2009. It’s been a good seven years since we last saw couples cut a fool out of themselves on national television. Star Plus aims to fill this void. Straight out of it’s saas-bahu soaps, Star Plus brings you Star Vivaah!! Hosted by Aditi Shirwaker and Mohnish Behl, who are both the epitome of behenji-ness, the show promises to make you weekday afternoons colourful by showing you families who happily sacrifice themselves on national television in search of the perfect son-in-law/daughter-in-law. I accidently saw an episode today while having lunch and almost choked on the food while laughing. This beats the Indian Idols, the Roadies and the Splitsvillas hands down!

While Star Plus aims to do social service, NDTV Imagine intends to spoil a poor guy’s life forever with it’s own matrimony madness. Our very own, busty desi item, Rakhi Sawant has decided that it’s time for her to settle down. So, she’ll be marrying her long-time and much publicised boyfriend Abhishek? Hell, no!! Rakhi Ka Swayamwar is the ultimate reality show. The previously mentioned shows in this article do not even come close to the madness this show aims to release on the idiot-box. Just as the name suggests, guys from all across the nation will compete to win the right to marry Rakhi Sawant. Madness at its maximum!! I haven’t seen this particular show but do plan on watching it when I have nothing better to do with my life.

So, there you have it people. Two new reality shows for you to watch that promise to take the reality entertainment in India to a whole new level altogether! Dare you miss the madness!!

P.S. : I’m surprised the website of Kahin Naa Kahin Koi Hai is still accessible. The ghost shall continue to haunt us all!!
